Made from a series of eleven charcoal drawings, Word reflects on the relationships of language, thought, behavior and psychological experiences. Its short and loosely connected narrative segments are strung together to suggest a series of events in which words play a pivotal role. The method of their linking however can be described more in terms of patterns and associations than by cause and effect, as one might expect from a rational and linear story. On one level, the animation reads as a series of instances of word play, in which letters and phrases continuously recombine to form new meanings, both logical and otherwise. On another level it becomes a meditation on the power of language to influence perception, whether from within or from without.
